Software & Version
License Manager 2023 R2, License Manager 2024R1
*This example was taken from this version but is not necessarily limited to this version.
Description/Cause
The name of the computer hosting the license manager was changed after the license file was issued. The hostname in the license file needs to match the hostname of the license manager in order for all License Manager services to start properly and perform checkouts properly.
*The cause(s) we identified in this documented instance may not be the only cause(s) for this error.
Solution
Option 1 - Change the hostname in your license file to match the computer name
Option 2 - Rehost Your License
- Rehost your license so that it is activated/issued with the new hostname.
- Reset Your Ansys License File before installing the new license file.
Option 3 - Change the hostname of your server/computer
Warning
Before changing your computer name, verify that no other services will be impacted by this. Also, all users will need to change the license server they are pointing to at the end of this process.
For Windows Client OS's
- Identify the computer hostname listed in your installed license file.
C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing\license_files\ansyslmd.lic
- Right Click on the Start Menu > select System > Rename PC.
- Rename the computer to the hostname found in your installed license file.
- Have all users change the license server they are pointing to this new server name.
